#13

Some people believe that 13 is an unlucky number, which I never subscribed to until today. I received the photo reference of Finley (isn’t that a great name?) in an email late last night and I wanted to draw this little girl immediately. I was up by 6 am and ready to draw. I finished this before my daughter even went down for her nap. I am not sure if it is because of the raised expectation I had made for myself, but I really struggled with this likeness. Even towards the end I kept redrawing the outside of her face. I feel that something is off, and that maybe I aged her a little. I am not really sure. I had cruised along with my portraits and this one was a bit of a speed bump. But maybe it looks like her? I do not know. I hope that throughout this process that I become more confident when I draw someone who I do not know. I guess all I can do is practice, practice, practice!
